The GREEN HOUSE® RESIDENCES
at STADIUM PLACE
GEDCO is developing four Green House® residences at Stadium Place with the capacity to provide a high quality of long-term care for 49 urban elders of varying economic circumstances utilizing the principles of The Green House model.
The Green House® Residences at Stadium Place
The Green House® Residences will help us achieve our vision of Stadium Place as a campus where seniors will receive a continuum of care, allowing them to age in community. The building will be part of a larger "village center" where a variety of service, shopping, medical, social, and other needs of the elders of North Baltimore will be met.
Why The Green House® Model
Developed by Dr. Bill Thomas, an innovative geriatrician, The Green House® Model is a unique approach for providing quality long-term care with compassion and respect for the individuals' desire to continue to thrive.
This model is now a national Replication Initiative funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation with technical assistance provided by NCB Capital Impact. GEDCO is planning to establish the first Green House® project in Maryland.
Current Progress
On April 17, 2008, the Maryland Health Care Commission approved a Certificate of Need (CON) for GEDCO to reactivate 49 Comprehensive Care Facility bed licences that had been donated to GEDCO by Johns Hopkins Bayview Care Center in 2005. The CON timetable requires GEDCO to begin construction by February, 2010, and complete the project by April, 2011.
In order to develop this project for the citizens of Stadium Place, Baltimore City, and the State of Maryland, GEDCO has started a $14 million capital campaign, to support the predevelopment costs, capital budget, and start-up and operating reserves associated with this project. Prospective sources of support include the faith communities, private individuals, the State of Maryland, Baltimore City, and several private foundations. For more information about the capital campaign, please contact Ann K. Murray, GEDCO Resource Development Director, at 410-433-2442 x15 or amurray@gedco.org.
