It is GEDCO’s 20th year anniversary, and we could not be the organization that we are today without your support and participation over the past two decades. We want to recognize the milestones and many faces of GEDCO (Govans Ecumenical Development Corporation) that have exemplified our tagline of Building Caring and Compassionate Communities over the last 20 years.

We invite each of you to craft a short reflective piece limited to 100 words that recalls stories of how your life or that of somone you know has been positively impacted from your experience with GEDCO.  The reflection can be either a brief bio of your experience with GEDCO or you also may respond to one of the following guiding questions:

v  How has GEDCO touched, moved, or inspired your life?

v  Describe a defining moment during your experience as a (resident, volunteer, member of a Member Organization, staff member, Board member, etc.) that has kept with you.

v  How has your experience with GEDCO encouraged you to give back to others?

v  How has putting your faith into action with GEDCO enhanced your faith and spirituality, and how has that transformed you?

v  How did your involvement increase your awareness of societies, cultures and diverse perspectives or challenge you to take risks and venture outside your comfort zone? Describe how this has helped you create community that values diversity and encourages each person’s contributions.

v  How have you impacted the development of GEDCO as an organization working to build caring and compassionate communities?

v  As a result of your time with GEDCO, how have you continued to make creating affordable housing, ending hunger, and/or working toward social justice a commitment in your life? How has this helped you discover your own meaning and purpose in life?

We expect a variety of submissions, and for them to be heart-warming, soul stirring, animated, faith filled, humorous, celebratory, reflective or even frantic.  We hope to weave together the many stories that make up the beautiful tapestry of GEDCO.

We will be choosing 20 stories to highlight throughout the year, though all of them will be available to read through our website. Please click here or send your reflections to Kristin Danielson, External Relations Coordinator at kdanielson@gedco.org or to the following address:

The final opportunity to submit your reflections is September 20th, 2011.  Thank you, and happy writing.
