In 1996, GEDCO redeveloped the historic Gallagher Mansion (map), which had been deteriorating and vacant for twenty years. It was renamed the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Senior Housing at the Gallagher Mansion and now contains 40 housing units for low-income senior citizens. In 1997 GEDCO received a Preservation Project Award from the Maryland Historical Trust “For its perseverance in returning Gallagher Mansion, a beautiful 1855 Baltimore villa… to its prominence in the Govans neighborhood.”
Gallagher Mansion is an active living facility and GEDCO provides a number of supportive services to improve the living experience of the residents. A part-time Service Coordinator works closely with the residents to identify activities and programs of interest and then facilitates their implementation.
