Ascension Homes (map) is comprised of three renovated single-family houses operating as group homes for individuals with chronic mental illnesses. Opened in 1998 by an Govans Ecumenical Homes, an interfaith partnership of neighborhood churches that proceeded GEDCO, the houses are integrated into the surrounding neighborhood, providing privacy to residents.
Each house offers its residents a nurturing, supportive setting in which they learn to function as independently as possible in and outside the house. All of the residents participate in day programs that help them learn living skills in a safe environment. Specific support services, such as residential counseling, are available on site.
