"When I need a little extra help getting by, I come to CARES to get food for me and my grandson and then I know it will be OK for the two of us.  Things will get better."

Stories just like this one are typical of the ones the CARES volunteers deal with each time the food pantry is open for business to assist its clients.

  • Sometimes, clients just need a little help to make it to the end of the month.  The food CARES makes available allows them to stretch the rest of their resources just a bit further.  As a result, they are often able to afford other basic needs such as medicine or transportation.

  • In the hot summer months, many children are not receiving free or reduced price meals as they would while they are in school.  For a lot of them, these meals may be the only nutritious food they consume all day.  Food baskets from CARES help provide the additional calories these growing and active bodies need during the summer break.

  • In the dead of winter, monthly heating costs are soaring due to the cold temperatures.  Many people are forced into choosing whether they can afford all their basic necessities.  Food baskets from CARES help free up dollars to help cover the increased utility bills.
